Introduction
Intelligence when demonstrated by machines is known as artificial intelligence as compared to
the natural intelligence displayed by humans.
- Artificial Intelligence can be categorized into several stages, depending upon the role they play:
- Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI): Performs only specific tasks as per the instructions provided only on specified data like Google Assistant, Alexa, Siri etc.
- Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): Has the capability to mimic human intelligence and can make decisions like humans. The concept is still not realized in real world where humans can interact with machines in a manner like the way they interact with their fellow humans.
- Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI): A super intelligent system is highly intelligent system that can make decisions even better than humans. This means that these systems can surpass human capabilities. No Such systems exist in real world and are part of only fiction stories. Jarvis in Iron man can be considered a super intelligent system which can make decisions even better than humans.
Risks and Challenges:
- Control and Alignment: Ensuring that a superintelligent AI system’s goals and values align with human values and goals is crucial. The challenge lies in designing mechanisms that prevent unintended consequences and ensure the AI system acts in humanity’s best interest.
- Safety and Security:Superintelligent AI systems could potentially pose security risks if they fall into the wrong hands or are misused. Robust security measures and fail-safe mechanisms need to be in place to prevent unauthorized access and malicious use.
- Job Displacement: The rapid advancement of AI and superintelligence could disrupt industries and lead to job displacement on a large scale. Preparing for this transition and exploring solutions, such as retraining and upskilling programs, is vital.
- Ethical Considerations: Superintelligence raises ethical questions surrounding AI’s impact on privacy, decision-making, and the potential for unintended biases. Establishing ethical frameworks and regulations to govern the development and deployment of superintelligent AI is crucial.
